1. Workshop Participant - Action Theater

Improvisation technique which incorporates movement, sound and speech. The following clips are 3 exercises that were used in the 10 week Action Theater workshop I participated in during the fall of 2007.

1. Lie/Sit/Stand 2. Words/Three Gazes 3. Contrasting Frames
Move slowly between these 3 positions. Occasionally do an abrupt movement. Say one word, whatever comes into your head.
As you say the word,
use one of three gazes - inward focus, direct eye contact, distance focus.
Create an improvisation where you have to either walk and talk really fast, freeze and make a sound, or move slowly without any sound or speech.
2. Workshop Leader

I conducted 3 workshops based on principles that I learned in Action Theater. Each workshop involved 3-4 people, most of whom had little or no performance background. The first two workshops were conducted in a loft space in Hackney, the third one was conducted in the Turbine Hall of the Tate Modern. Printouts of my notes and a blog entry (click here to view entry) from one of the Tate workshop participants are next to the computer.
3. Project Sketches - Solo Chorus

Sketches for a performance piece where I sing live and my accompaniment is video projections of myself singing different parts. All music and movement in these pieces was improvised and harmonies were created during the editing.
